When I first approached the concept of recreating a book, in the mid ’90s, I was using existing publications as a vessel to compile other material. Eventually, I started to create new compositions. This process revealed that there was more that could be accomplished by reinterpretation. A new life could be given. A new narrative, outcome, and ultimately a new capacity could materialize through this “cast in stone” format... Its set limitations and boundaries to expand upon and transform into a source of unsanctioned collaboration.
We have moved beyond merely representing what we can see, and are now reflecting the truth that lies beneath tangible existence. This casts the material world as a mere speck in comparison to the universe and suggests that numerous other, unseen realities exist.
These books rely on abstraction, leaving a great deal of ambiguity for the audience to interpret and construct new and personal lore. I added text to the page to provide one lens to look at it through.
